What Training Do You Need to Become a Surgical Tech?
To become a surgical tech, you need to enroll in a formal training program. These programs can last anywhere between nine months and two years, and they result in a certificate, diploma, or associate's degree. There are over 450 of these programs in the United States, accredited by two official organizations. These organizations ensure that training programs meet acceptable standards and produce excellent surgical techs.

In order to earn promotions and higher salaries, you need to become a certified technologist. In addition to earning more money, getting certified will make it far easier for you to find a job. There are two different types of certification that you can seek: the Certified Surgical Technologist designation, and the Tech in Surgery-Certified designation.
Surgical Technologist Salary and Job Outlook
Across the United States, employment opportunities for surgical techs are expected to grow by 25 percent through 2018. Compared to other professions, that number is far above average. Several factors contribute to this projected growth.
